IYF ENGLISH CAMP OVERVIEW

IYF English Camps are short-term missions trips where you’re dispatched abroad as a volunteer instructor to teach the English language and American culture to students of all ages.

With the IYF English Camp curriculum, your students will gain confidence to see their futures in a new light and the world through a different lens. We promise that this transformation will help you, as a volunteer, discover the joy of putting the happiness of others before your own.

IYF ENGLISH CAMP STATS

Our focus on English language learning began in 2001 with a challenge to Korean college students: deliver a speech in front of a crowd…in English.

This event inspired our approach to offering young people English instruction beyond the classroom in challenging formats that forced them to push past their limits. Along the way, countless volunteers have assembled to not only teach curricula, but to deliver hope.

IYF ENGLISH CAMP PROGRAMS

MIND LECTURES

In a series of insightful, life-changing sessions, the Bible is used to help participants navigate their hearts and discover the reasons for isolation, sadness, and hopelessness. They come away with resolutions to these problems through faith.

ENGLISH LECTURES

These lectures are given by our volunteers one topic at a time, and at the right pace to match English levels. They focus on grammar, mechanics, and common English terms and phrases.

IYF ACADEMY

Volunteers teach hands-on courses that cover a variety of professions, like cooking, current events, and dance. Students have a real chance to discover a passion or even a career.

GROUP WORK & RECREATION

This program is important because not all students learn at the same pace. Instructors can assess language level in real time and tailor learning according to need. Activities include English-learning games, mind presentations, sports, and group fellowship.

SONG & DANCE

Music is one of the best ways to learn and practice English. Volunteers study lyrics and phrases of songs and present them as English lessons. This is a fun way to take English skills to the next level.

3_1-map.png

SCAVENGER HUNT

Students compete against each other in groups to solve riddles, find hidden answers, and complete missions. Volunteers serve as station managers and guides. Fastest group wins!

CULTURAL PERFORMANCES

Volunteers do awesome international dance numbers on stage for the full audience before every mind lecture. A healthy dose of world culture can broaden any heart.

I have done many things with IYF, but nothing compares to the ten days I spent in Haiti. We can all make a difference in at least one life. Seeing things firsthand gives me hope for my future and hope for America. Thank you Haiti, for teaching me how to rejoice and jump for joy.”

Sierra Bohn,

US Volunteer to Haiti

I was nervous once it began because I had never taught before. But I met the students and they showed so much love and compassion towards me, it shocked me in a great way. I remember telling them I couldn’t eat the tacos because I was a vegetarian, and they went ahead and brought me food. I was thankful beyond words. I opened up to them and in return, I gained loving friends for eternity.”

US Volunteer to Mexico

Haiti was such a great experience! All the students were very humble and eager to learn. I made lots of friends I’ll never forget, students and volunteers. There were a lot of things IYF did right and I was very impressed. I can’t wait to go back to Haiti and continue with the next IYF camp!”

Alex Elder,

US Volunteer to Haiti

It was a good time for us to connect through our experiences, despite coming from different backgrounds. When it was time to leave, one of my students shared that my fellow teacher and I were like big sisters that she never had. That touched my heart and made the whole experience at IYF English Camp totally worthwhile. I definitely want to continue to volunteer myself. To touch other people any way that I can, because it is the most rewarding feeling in the entire world.”

Elizabeth Vecseri,

US Volunteer to Mexico
